Wildlife Protection Association of Australia
Our Vision:
A future where our wildlife is free to live
and prosper in a safe and natural environment.
Our Mission:
To conserve and protect the wildlife
of Australia by all lawful means.
The Wildlife Protection Association of Australia was founded in 1999 by Pat O'Brien, President, and Australia's very own Wildlife Warrior, the late Steve Irwin. It is able to continue its very important and valuable work due to the continued support of the Irwin family who send a strong message about the conservation and protection of wildlife through their wildlife documentaries which are seen by millions of people on television around the world.
Never before in Australian history has there been such an urgent need to protect our remnant native species. With extended drought and climate change already upon us, much of our native animals are in deep trouble. The last of our forest habitats are being burnt, wood-chipped, or cleared for development and agriculture. Those that are not already decimated are being 'managed' by State Government Departments with almost no resources.
In 2008 it's even more important to actively continue our work to protect wildlife. Wildfires in all States have again made a big impact on our native animals, road kills are escalating, and government departments still hand out permits to just about anyone to kill wildlife as 'pests'.
The WPAA members are dedicated and committed to the principles of wildlife protection. We are pledged to campaign against all actions which threaten the current or future of our wildlife, to promote positive community attitudes through advocacy, communication and education. As a non-government, community based group, we lobby Government at all levels to do better with wildlife protection.
The WPAA receives no government funding. It is a registered charity and all donations over $2.00 are tax deductible within Australia. The Australia Zoo, founded by the late Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin funds our administration expenses so that 100% of your donation is used to continue our work.
